birthday celebration @ dongx3

Today is to celebrate FIL's birthday. It's only later that MIL told me it's also sam bro-in-law's bday.....so qiao.
After I told Calline about Ikoi & also for hazel's convenience, we ended up in kushinbo again! errghhh

Kushinbo failed me again with this 2nd chance. ;( But it's very packed. Biz is super good! Like the 1st time, Hazel made reservation but this time round, it's right inside and the table is a bit small though.....gets too cramped with all the food.

Started with kaminabe, yakitori followed by sushi & sashimi.....tried the steam prawn sam took. look very red but hor tasteless...same goes for the mussel expected anyway haha....I thought after the 1st visit, would be the last too...Nothing's really nice, everything is tasteless. hahaha so sad...not even the chawanmushi...sakae sushi's even nicer....jia lat man.

I ended it with mochi (peanut & green tea) & ice peach tea that I was quite happy with :)

conclusion is people go there for the vast variety. it's not very cheap though $32+++ if not wrong.

sat outing with cousins

this was planned few weeks ago....to waruku @cuppage with mei, wen & hoon's family. I almost can't make it but still joined them at about 1pm+....so pai seh by the time I arrived, they had already finished their food.

On my way there in the cab, I called yen to order for me 1st. I was there very soon as there's no jam in orchard rd. the taxi uncle said I'm very lucky cos usually at that time, will be jammed.

They were surprised I reached there so fast. After a while, my cod fish kaminabe with clear soup came. yummy.....HOT man. I can't take hot stuff ma....so must drink slowly. Yen booked a private room; nice & cosy very nice for an intimate gathering. thanks wen!

While I was eating, the kids were getting restless and running around. alamak even danced & posed while we took his pix. so cute & sporting...

After waruku, we planned to go to the ice cream gallery again, with hoon's family this time. But hoon had to send her mum, alamak & orh eh home 1st ;p We went back in 2 different cabs to zion rd. Cos we were worried hoon was too lazy to walk there without us so we sacrificed la instead of taking cab directly to valley point. wei da hor hehe....

We took turns to try out flavours & ordered as follow:
aloysius - belgian chocolate
alicia - root beer
hoon - d24 durian ice cream float cos she doesn't like ice-cream but hor also have ice-cream ma ;)
mei - d24 durian (bestseller)
wen - black sesame
leng - lychee

without fail, mei ordered pastry, brownie this time. All of us tried but thought not so nice la. see her like that a bit jiak liao bi la...hahah mei, don't scold me. Some more can eat tidbits after meals salute u!!! gan bai sia feng..:)

after ice cream feast, we walk to delta hse to collect wen's graduation pix. we were complaining how ulu the place was.

we walked home from there.....

as planned, wen & I took pix of zion 86 hawker thinking it's gona close in sep. chey realized it will be demolished only next apr. anyhow, we took most of the stalls though many were closed. Hoon went to buy 'hope' and the rest went home.

I was perspiring like no one's biz. Such a HOT day...we decided to have a drink there instead of going GWC as I have facial appointment at about 5pm.

Finished facial at about 7ish. Went wen's hse for fried bee hoon with my favourite 'tau kee' yummy & also ar cha using irene's bowl....I remembered telling mei I like that and I got to eat it. Must thank aunty leh :) These gals are really lucky to have home cooked food.

As usual, mei had her titbits after dinner ;p

tiong bahru five spice & prawn fritters :)

no car today la....so just went to the wanton mee kopi tiam for lunch. had wanton quo tiao soup....realized there's a new wu xiang stall!!! It's called 'tiong bahru rd wu xiang prawn fritters' smthing like dat la....remember, we were missing the old wu xiang stall at 86 hawker???

This stall hor super small leh but biz seem quite gd. we ordered 2 prawn fritters & 1 wu xiang. no more bee hoon leh...not bad....d fritter comes with fresh prawn (i guess, unlike the stupido kolo mee) & bean sprouts. There's makan sutra recommendation & newspaper write up with
title 'no name, great success' but I didn't get to read. The server, an aunti looked so busy running around & washing dishes cos the plates were piling....

Oh, this kopi tiam also got a funni server but at least quite a pretty char bor la. There's once she came asking if we want drinks...before I could reply her, she said 'aiya, ni men bu yao de la'....like veri beh kum wan. then I said 'huh? bu yao he bu xin meh' super chia hor hehehe ;p

funny hawkers ;p

sorry, can't help but wana write this la.

1st, heard about funni aunti @the kolo mee chinatown branch from wen. wen, which one huh? the one nearer to chinatown pt or nearer to 'chang cheng chou'?? guess the former....

now it's this funni uncle who sells rojak at cape inn kopi tiam. at the same time, he helps the fishball mee aunti to serve. He has this habit of asking in hokkien "wu kio mee bo??" not the 1st time tonight. always kena....

tonight lagi best. we just arrived, sat down & he did saw us. he came asking "wu kio rojak bo?" biang biang i can't be bothered to answer but sam responded la. sometimes he can ask everytime he has order, holding the tray, going around asking the same people damn sut sut bo chio!!! Duno if he can't recognize or can't be bothered to remember faces.

He actually sells rojak one leh. not nice yet got business la. maybe no biz then help fishball aunti hehehe.

ok la that's all for now. got to wake up bloody early!!! nite nite

巧合

wanted to go cape inn for 'dinner' but thought sure end up with western food (heaty la) so detour to redhill food ctr. sam had fishball mee, which is always quite gd biz. I tried the fishball very QQ....nice! I had popiah healthy right haha like real. Filling is not bad but the skin damn tough lor.

While eating, we saw ah hoon & no. 2. So qiao! Last night bumped into har2 & ah bee at 'tanglin halt 10th floor'. Maybe tomorrow yen li & mei...hehe Then ah hoon sat down & we chatted while no. 2 went searching for food. They actually planned to go cape inn too hahah. SUPER QIAO rite? it happens lor....Ah hoon told me she's still having gastric flu so not gona eat. Poor her :( Luckily, her colic would be back to work in 3 wks' time.

No. 2 came back with laksa. Ah hoon asked "enough meh"? He went to racki again....came back with bbq chix wings. Then my turn to ask him "gao meh? go buy cheng tng la"...he really did. very eh sai leh no. 2 ganbatte!!!! But ah hoon said he always skips meals & only eat 1 heavy super meal late nite. so ok now datz how he got 'italy' ;p

we left together....

log on to msn when home.....irene buzzed me lor really 'xi ke' leh so hapi. she commented my blog on dua seh gai hawker really sentimental lor. After that, wen also joined in & we really had fun chatting
super funni 1.....1st my nick was sbs. irene changed hers to TIBS while wen changed to SMRT. but hor my sbs actually means si bei sien leh....wen guessed right! burst into laughter whahahahaha!!! funi??? Later irene changed hers to 'orh bak kat' our childhood self-invented game by who? lao leong???? Then I changed mine to 'yong tau hoo'. Then wen changed into 'ice kacang', irene to 'cheng tng', & me to 'bo bo cha cha'. ‘快乐糖水‘

Really made my day. was bit down....now im okie thks to 'ka chngs'.....aunties la!

又过了一天!'lor mee'

嗨!又过了一天!went tiong bahru for lunch as planned. didn't know which lor mee stall is the nice one, so just joined in the one with long queue....the other stall next to chwee kueh got no biz leh. hmm taste normal leh. I missed those with many crispy ingredients one leh......heard the one at Amoy St. is nice? has anyone tried? the one at bukit purmei is also popular & must wait for half an hr one.... but don't really suit my taste ;p (super im jim) Actually I don't know how to qualify to be nice lor mee hahaha. anyone knows???

as usual, MK wana tabao snacks for whole office. so nice of her. Told her fried spring roll from tiong bahru bao is nice ; so so much better than old chang kee. She also bought char siew bao. She was curious seeing a long q at a fishball mee stall & joined the super long q......but hor she said mee not nice, looked soggy but fishball & fish cake are quite nice.

Ina, my jap colic asked me to buy whatever I gona eat. So I also bought lor mee for her and she likes it; something new to her.... later, I went to the dessert stall with her and she ordered cheng tng. She also likes it and told me during her mum's recent visit, she brought her to newton and had ice kacang, & her mum likes it.

Carol had hokkien prawn mee n finds it not bad.

I only spent $2.50 during lunch hahaha. :) thanks to MK!

supersien

shit, really feels life sucks nowadays!!! childhood's still the best! no worries just study & play.

society super practical! humans too! everything increases $$$$$ but salary no increase lol.....aiya just to fa lao sao! now, only eating & sleeping can satisfy me. .....ooooo so sad right hmm. sounds like a piggy life!!! Really worry that after all the stupido upgrading of old food centres, all the nice food will be gone soon. If you read last Sun's lifestyle on Singapore's food, tell me what's your thoughts?

Like the famous chwee kuey at tiong bahru ...... not so nice liao. one down again. The very last time I had at the temporary market was damn disappointing. They actually pre-packed them and was 'mi mi' when I ate. Chilli seems not as nice too. OK now I prefer 'Bedok' chwee kuey. Anywhere else nice?

Havn't been to the temporary Chinatown food ctr. Ah hoon said it's messy leh. Gona check if the steamed fishhead's (HK style) still operating there. The owner told me the temp space was too small so may not sell that temporarily. so sad....

this week, MK is driving cos her hubby is overseas. So we took this chance to go out everyday for lunch since Mon. :)

On Mon, we went killiney and chanced upon 'kolo mee', the famous sarawak noodles. all of us ordered the $5.90 bowl that comes with char siew, minced pork, 'beh sek' prawn & wanton. Also, had the luohan longan drink. Mee is nice QQ looks bit like maggie mee cos it's curly though it's 'you mee'. Told sam the prawn like beh sek. He said it should be frozen one. I will never order that again yucks. After eating that, didn't feel really well that pm. As usual, we went jln jln along killiney cos my colics wana tabao for teabreak. Haha as usual, MK will buy for the whole office. She bought curry puffs (potato & sardine) from the Muslim shop (so so only). Carol was looking for the 'OA Bakery' then we realized it's gone....sad. the beef noodles (tw style) is not bad. There's also a new jap restaurant, 'Raku Express' by Raku. They even sell laksa aiyo seems like times really bad. everyone wants a share of the cake ;0)

Emailed yen li that I went for kolo mee and she asked if their service was bad. Told her no leh cos it's killiney branch. ;p She didn't know there's a branch there. I didn't know too. In fact, the service was good very polite. The shop is bigger than the one @Chinatown new bridge rd.

Tue was maxwell la. MK already planned on Mon to go but it's closed on Mon ma. Her favourite 'Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice'. I don't find it very nice leh. Wat say u? But it's cheap lah - chicken & cuttlefish shared by 2 pax $4 each. So I ordered fishball mee after walking round few times and still didn't know what to eat. SUPER OILY & $2.50. Think zion 86 better $2 & i LUV the fish cake. Fan man@!!! There goes MK again....Halfway eating, she was thinking of her tapioca being sold out so I casually told her to go & buy. She really went lor. very determined indeed! Too bad it's sold out again. Best thing is she asked the owner "Why always sold out one?"....The owner said "I open from 8am to 2pm. If you come at 9am sure have one." lol On the way back, we were thinking of what to eat the next day. I suggested teochew porridge since it's soothing food.

So I brought them to Bukit Merah View Food Centre to have 'Ah Bao Teochew Porridge'. Guess what?? We paid only $11.20 in total shared by 4 pax. Had 1 steamed fish, hebi hiam, spinach, fish cake, dong buo rou, minced pork & 4 bowls of sweet potato congee. Super cheap right??? If go havelock sure kena ketok....$20++ not surprising hehehehe

Carol is thinking of going Tiong Bahru to eat.....hmmmmm i really have to think hard what to eat. Always hear the Lor mee is nice so may give it a try but hor may have to miss it leh. sam's niece isabel is having 'zua' on her neck and needs me to write 虎 on her.

See how la....later hapi lunch :)

it's sunday yeah!

yeah it's sunday! had a great long zzzz, koon till 11am darn pig! oooopppps getting lazier jia lat how how? it's a bad habit lah. actually, even more tired if zzzz more than needed. Kena suan again lor...

anyhow, going to MIL's hse for lunch as usual; my only day with homecooked food. Looked forward to seeing the 3 little cuties. MIL cooked fish, chicken yummy, egg toufu w dried mushroom and soup (pig tail & chicken feet).....

after watching tv & after they left, the rest slept & I cho bo la cos already slept too muchie ;p So went downstairs and bought fruits to munch, mouth itchy liao. Bo liao so bought a mag to read. At about 5+pm mum called to say she's not feeling well so went home. Guess what after father is back, they went out after his shower. Super good leh!

Not long after, we planned to go jalan jalan at a florist place in hougang but closed liao when we reached.....Then we headed to loyang TPK to bai bai. After praying, pple started to gather around the entrance. We wondered which VVIP coming. Then we also joined in the 'fun'. Helpers started distributing 'mo li hua' jasmine for us to 'throw' (can't think of a better word now) onto the God's feet upon his march-in.

We waited for about 10 mins and there he was 'InDian God'. People started chanting and kids followed. We had our blessing from him and were given limited gold coin to have good luck and good health.

OK time for 'dinner' havn't eaten leh. Sam suggested Changi Village yeah yeah....Havn't been there for soooo long. After a short tour, we decided to settle for 'Nasi Ayam Penyet'. Smells gd & was attracted by their wooden plate which they served the chicken. EEEEeee mine was chicken breast so bit tough while sam's drum. Hmmm, I find it so so la.....too bad no pic. But very gd biz hor. only then i realized most of the stalls are Malays.

It's sunday so headed home to watch 'Miami Ink'.....it was a really long way out man.

zion 86 hawker gona be gone soon :(

As promised, gona talk about this hawker centre that's full of childhood memories. So sad to hear that it's gona be gone in Sep'06. Initially, they gona upgrade but who knows bcos there aren't many takers, that's why govt. gona tear it down sob sob :(

Most memorable stalls:

  1. kway chap

  2. fried yam cake & mini soon kueh

  3. 五香

  4. chee cheong fan

  5. dessert stall - ice kachang

Unfortunately, kway chap is the only stall that's still around amongst abovementioned. Wanted to eat today during lunch but already closed leh. Super gd biz man! So ended up sharing with my colic 'yee mee' nice too. :) but waited for more than half an hour. My late grandma used to tabao and we just eat that with rice. Simple and nice! ;p Until now, auntie ah kum still does that.

Really really miss the other stalls. Nothing really great about the ice kacang though. Just that I remember we (ah hoon, irene, peck ling, har, yong) used to go there after our 'soccer' session with the big brothers including eddie, ah boy, lao leong, no. 2, & etc. Guess what?? We always aimed their feet whenever we couldn't get the ball whahaha. The auntie still remembers me before she wound up her business this year. Always charged me cheaper for drinks hehe. So whoever goes makan with me would also get the special treatment keke.

It's been a long time since I ate fried teochew kueh. The old stall there's nice. Also, the 五香 stall is very different from the typical one. Liked the luncheon meat with egg and the fried fish yummy.......don't know if they're still in the business and moved to which place. Late grandma used to buy that to pai pai. She also patronized the chee cheong fan stall very frequently for breakfast.

Those were the good old days sigh.......but happy memories ;) Ooopppss forgot about the traditional dessert stall near the toilet. Run by a very old woman.....very traditional & nice 花生糊, 芝麻糊,etc. If still here hor, 'TONG SHUI' sure die haha. One more, fried carrot cake; yong's favourite. It's still around but run by the son now. He still remembers me and always says in hokkien "jing dua han liao hor.... theng ban sway sway han nia." Of cos la u also old liao hehe.

Not forgetting the not so pioneer 'duck stall', I like the duck mee. But it's also gone and don't know to where. All the good food gone sien...ok la think long enough hor, wen? hehe

goodie food!!!!

Sat Aug 6 - Gu Su Lim & ice-cream

Yeah it' Sat! Meeting Ah hoon's n yen li's families to go Gu Su Lim pai pai. Went downstairs for breakfast before that - vegetarian bee hoon + kopi-c siu dai ; ) it's 12.25pm time to go.

Yen mei was already at the bus stop outside the old hawker. Talking about that, I heard it's going to be gone in Sep'06 so sad. All my childhood memories going down the drain. Talk about it in my next post then.

As I was waiting to cross the road, I saw ah hoon's family coming. Then, come Yen li and auntie. We ended up taking 2 taxis there since it's more worth it. It's so HOT that day.

After pai pai, we went 2nd floor for 1st round makan but I didn't eat la cos already eaten. Who knows the food isn't so nice, so most of us went for 2nd round downstairs hahaha. So I chopped the whole table and sat there with Alamak while the rest got their food. He's so so cute! I asked him not to sit so near to the edge of the bench cos might fall & break his head. Then he said very softly something like 'wait your head no more or botak head' haha.... Then Ah hoon gave alamak a bowl of plain porridge with gravy. He said very nice got curry gravy and offered me but I said no thanks la. He's so sweeeeettttt ;p Guess what, ah hoon told me it's not curry la. See, that's children so simple, naive, kawaiii neh

We are supposed to wash the dishes and this Ah hoon blur blur forgot she has a maid and her maid was taking her own sweet time to eat....haiyo, am I too detailed or too eng? ya cos' on sick leave today kinda 'sprained' my neck yday still not well. so take mc lor. Should have taken mc yday too so stupid of me Y take leave???!!!

While the rest were having 2nd round downstairs, ah hoon, alamak & I went to pray the big buddha behind. Alamak really luvs pai pai leh.....gd gd! Before we went home, auntie & ah hoon went to get back the food for offerings. Guess what, auntie's sedap huat kueh was gone! Y got so tam sim person 1??? anyhow we told her nevermind la, the person who took it will get it lor. Maybe auntie will kena 4d leh??? Who knows? But she kept saying hers is very nice unlike the normal huat kueh.....hai what to do? We can't stop people from doing things...

I bought 3 packets of flowers home to pong pong. Luckily ah hoon told me gals can only use that to wash face, not pong. I gave alamak a small orchid and he's happy, got principle some more dun wana trade in for something else when mei siah him.

hey, wen I can write a lot too lol..... I can join your club! I went back in a cab with yen li's family. Got a facial at 4.30pm. I reached home at about 7+pm. Yen li text me that they were done with waruku paper steamboat. Went downstairs to wait for them....I asked "Wah you gals can still eat ice-cream?". Mei, w/o hesitation nodded her head hahah damn 'eh sai' so we started our journey by the riverside.

Wen & mei didn't know where's valley point and also the way to walk there. It's quite a windy night so very shiok to walk there though I havn't had dinner la. Took us about 10 mins to stroll there. Quite crowded as it's a small cafe. Mei ordered brandy fig. Wen ordered rum & raisin while I had cappucino almond yummy. Also, ordered hot dog as I havn't eaten. They took pix and we chatted on wen's taipei's trip esp. food hehehe.

We left about 9+. Strolled back again shiok leh. I luv doing that. hope to do that with cousins more often. Good day! cheers : )
